PaperNavigator for Pulp and Paper

The NBS System – General Features

It is only possible to service key areas of paper production efficiently when the software system has access to all relevant data and information related to paper production and the actual products. In order for the program to generate rational, well-founded decisions and/or alternatives, it is absolutely critical for data to be carefully analysed, not to speak of cases where the program reaches conclusions based on limited information.

NBS System Functions

  • Not only does the IT system have all sales data at its disposal but it also encompasses information related to the product and producer equipment.
  • Standardized platform for production management systems.
  • Intelligent data processing of faulty data or out-of-sequence data.
  • Semi-automated functions, non-intervention return to automatic function initiated from manual control.
  • Detailed data monitoring prior to data transfer and download using a telegram processing system.
  • Total recording of system events.
  • Continued system operability even under extraordinary or non-standard situations less frequently occurring in paper production.
  • Constant real-time automatic status display.
  • Total modelling of production and available cutting plans (production programs) on the roll cutter.
  • Serving automatic conveyor and product packaging systems.
  • Minimum down-times resulting from version switches (2-5 minutes).

Areas Served by the NBS System

  • Cutting pattern optimisation allows for the drafting of single-run cutting plans grouped according to quality of production stock orders. The system will always produce a solution to a cutting plan. If necessary, it will display which items have to be input into the cutting plan to make production feasible.
  • Production programming: cutting plans can be stored in daily (or several-day) production programs. After establishing sequences between programs, the system calculates planned completion times and planned times for quality and paper weight changes.
  • The paper machine manager’s monitor is capable of displaying optimised information and events for quick overview. It also allows for manual recording of key events.
  • The roll cutter’s monitor provides a precise display of the next cutting and packaging task. The program is capable of providing online control of automatic roll cutter systems.
  • The lab monitor controls paper quality parameters and draws a comparison between these and the contracted parameters. It examines trends and, based on these results, is able to define the sampling frequency in line with quality stability.
